WHO ARE TRANS TANZ?

Trans Tanz is governed by 14 UK trustees. The trustees meet quarterly to discuss the overall running of the charity, fundraising, and project plans. Trustees are responsible for the managing of the organisation’s funds, its compliance with legal requirements and decisions made by the charity. The Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary are all elected by equal majority voting. The board of trustees includes a wide range of expertise including medical, legal, government, fundraising, academic and charitable experience.

We employ a full time project manager in Tanzania to run the project and a part time driver.

WHO DO TRANS TANZ WORK WITH?

We work with UKUN – a community based organisation operating in the Bagamoyo district north of the Tanzanian capital Dar-es-Salaam. UKUN have been involved with every stage of the design and implementation of the project. In time we hope to hand over full running of the project to them.

HOW DOES TRANS TANZ FUND ITS OPERATIONS?

So far Trans Tanz has been entirely dependent on donations. We are currently developing bids for grant funding to allow us to significantly expand the numbers of people living with HIV/AIDS that we can support.

HOW ARE TRANS TANZ MONITORED?

We are registered as a charity in the United Kingdom and as a Registered Society in Tanzania. We submit an annual report and accounts to the Charity Commission in the United Kingdom and these are available on this website.

We gain approval to our project plans from the Tanzanian Ministry of Health.

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED WITH TRANS TANZ?

Trans Tanz is always looking for fundraising support. Monthly donations provide us with a reliable source of income. £6 a month enables us to support one patient for a whole year. To set up a monthly donation please contact us at transtanz@hotmail.co.uk

WHY TRANS TANZ?

The last ten years have witnessed an unprecedented amount of aid to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa. Aid is channelled to a variety of much needed projects. Access to treatment, however, remains a problem that is consistently articulated by local communities but is not addressed.

Trans Tanz works directly with these community groups to provide transport that will keep people alive. All our UK trustees are volunteers and we keep our UK costs very low. B supporting Trans Tanz your money will go direct to communities where it is much needed.

DOES TRANS TANZ CHOOSE WHO USES THE SERVICES?

We won’t. The community groups we work with will identify those who need the service through their network of Home Based Carers – overseen by local medics.

HOW MUCH MONEY DOES TRANS TANZ NEED?

Our current partnership with UKUN costs around £11,000 per year to deliver – around £75/year for each of the patients we support.
