Happy Anniversary!
This month, Juma, the Trans Tanz driver, celebrates a year of helping his local community access ART. The great man says: ‘The last year has been good for me because I have been able to help many people.’
The Big Push launches!
Duncan Skelton, Trans Tanz project manager, will be visiting The AIDS Support Organisation (TASO) in Uganda this January to find out how they run their successful bike project. As part of our 2009 Big Push, Trans Tanz hopes to adopt a similar model to its projects so we can broaden our reach.
Trans Tanz Triathletes
Two of our more dedicated trustees - Gem and Soph - and 2 of our loyal TTers have announced to widespread disbelief that they're taking part in the Blenheim Palace triathlon to raise money and awareness of Trans Tanz. Sounds kinda chilly to me...
Trans Tanz Summer Party raises £1800!!
Here at Trans Tanz we never ever ever get tired of thanking our good friends, families, supporters and guests, who have combined once again to raise a HUGE amount of money for the cause. September's 'Trans Tanz on Safari' party raised a whopping eighteen hundred quid! In no particular order, we salute: The Fellows, DJ Maestro, Martin Brown and Sam Hyde for wowing the crowds plus the kind folk at Live Nation, Yahoo! and Woburn Safari Park for donating raffle prizes. Oh Ember Bar for hosting us and the hundred or so revellers who showed up on the night, more often than not in leopard skin. Check out the Flickr gallery for more photos and to upload your own...
More Trans Tanz Runners!!
The stamina of the Trans Tanz trustees seemingly knows no ends. Together we're on a mission to run around the world and back... or something. Up this week were Jamie and Hannah in the Manchester 10k. Jamie very courteously allowed Hannah to beat him - coming in at 1 hour 7 mins vs her 1 hour 2 mins. Between them they've raised £450 for Trans Tanz, so big up to them and all the generous supporters...
George Defies Weather to Triumph in Marathon
Trans Tanz trustee George Bauldry fought through the rain, wind, hail and 35,000 other runners to cross the finishing line of the London Marathon in a little over 4 1/2 hours yesterday. Wearing full African garb, she raised £650 for Trans Tanz in the process. Yet another heroic effort. The remaining trustees are feeling suitably humbled...
Positive feedback from Trans Tanz Patients, Tuesday Service Launches
Fifteen of the first Trans Tanz patients were on hand to provide much needed feedback on our first months of service to Duncan, Juma and a selection of Home Based Carers this week. The patients thanked Trans Tanz for the service which has helped them to access treatment, it was judged to a very necessary and helpful service. In response to concerns that the service was becoming increasingly crowded, we have introduced an additional Tuesday service to compliment the existing Thursday run.
Eat Your Heart Out, Lewis Hamilton
Trans Tanz welcomes Juma Mpwimbwi to the team as our new driver AND mechanic. Despite having possibly the most difficult-to-pronounce surname in the world, we're delighted to have Juma joins us. He brings a wealth of experience and some excellent recommendations and look look after the bus in his home in Miono. He did his first solo run last week and shortly be commencing our bi-weekly service. Project Manager Duncan will now have more time on his hands to apologise to the local chicken owners for the deaths incurred on previous bus runs when he was driver.
Trans Tanz take over Brighton
Trustees Sam Collins, Dan Lehner and George Bauldry all successfully completed (in that order) the Sussex Beacon Half Marathon on Sunday 16th Feb, raising a total of £500 for Trans Tanz in the process. Congratulations to the aforementioned finely-tuned racing machines. Over at Trans Tanz Towers we're preparing for the ultimate race: Sam vs Juma (in the Trans Tanz bus) - from Bagamoyo to Chalinze and back. Sam, do you accept the challenge?
